Recruitment Process Rules
1. Short Title and Commencement -
(1) These Rules may be called Recruitment Process Rules.
(2) They shall come into force on July 16, 2011.
2. Definitions -
In these Rules, unless the context otherwise requires,
(a) “Acceptance” means the confirmation by an Applicant which will be communicated to the
prospective Recruiter through the Recruitment Co-ordination Committee;
(b) “Applicant” means a student of the graduating batch who has registered himselves with the Recruitment Co-ordination Committee;
(c) “Recruitment Co-ordination Committee (RCC)” means the official body entrusted with the responsibility of facilitating the Recruitment Process;
(d) “Final Interview List” means the list of Applicants short listed for appearing in the Final Interviews, in accordance with the procedure mentioned in clause 6;
(e) “Final Interviews” means interviews conducted by the Recruiters at any time during the Recruitment Process based on which an offer is made to an Applicant;
(f) “Selected Candidates List” means the list of selected Applicants to whom the Final Offer has been made during the Recruitment Process;
(g) “Offer” means the offer extended by the Recruiter to the Applicant on the completion of the Final Interview or any other process or processes undertaken by the Recruiter;
(h) “Pre Interview Screening” means the process or processes conducted by the Recruiter, if it is so desirous, for the purpose of short listing the Applicants who will get an opportunity to appear for the Final Interviews;
(I) “Pre Placement Offer” means any written offer extended to an Applicant in his/her internship with a registered Recruiter or with a Recruiter yet to register with the RCC or a Recruiter not registered at anytime during the Recruitment Process;
(j) “Recruiter” means any lawyer's chambers, law firm, company, non-governmental organization or any such organization which offers internships or recruitments to law students;
(k) “Recruitment Process” as far as Applicant is concerned - means the process undertaken to conduct the recruitments, which begins from the date of registration of the Applicants and concludes when first offer is made.
As far as Recruiter is concerned - means the process undertaken to conduct the recruitments, which begins from the date of registration of Recruiter with the RCC and concludes when confirmation letter is received from the applicant.(recruitment process for recruiter vis-a-vis one individual applicant).
(l) “Rules” mean the Recruitment Process Rules; and
(m) “University” means Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow.
(n) “Vetting” means the verification of an applicant’s CV, which shall be done by a faculty member.
3. Pre Placement Talks -
(1) Organizations interested in conducting Pre Placement Talks shall coordinate with the RCC and fix dates for conducting them.
(2) The Pre Placement Talks are to be conducted anytime prior to the beginning of the Pre Interview Screening.
4. Vetting of Curricula Vitae – (a) Every applicant’s Curriculum Vitae shall be rigidly scrutinised by the faculty, and those found in default shall be penalised with a penalty of Rs. 500, which in grave circumstances can extend to Rs. 1,000.
(b) Any wilful misrepresentation from the applicant’s end in his/her curriculum vitae, intended to bypass the procedure established for vetting of CVs shall result in immediate disqualification from the placement process.
5. Recruitment Registration -
(1) All Recruiters participating in the Recruitment Process shall have to mandatorily register with the RCC.
(2) The process of registration shall commence from July 20, 2011 till the end of the academic year, as announced by the University.
5. Pre Interview Screening -
(1) The Applicants selected in the Pre Interview Screening shall qualify for appearing in the Final Interviews.
(2) The procedure for Pre Interview Screening is the Recruiters' own policy.
6. Short Listing and the Final Interview List -
(1) After the completion of recruitment registration and/or Pre Interview Screening, RCC shall formulate a Final Interview List (FIL) for every registered Recruiter.
(2) The FIL shall contain the names of Applicants who have qualified for appearing for the Final Interviews.
(3) The FIL shall be made as per the following:
(a) According to the Recruiters' recruitment policy, or
(b) According to the results of the Pre Interview Screening conducted by the Recruiter, or
(c) In case the Recruiter has no fixed method of short listing candidates, Curricula Vitae of all
interested students shall be forwarded to the Recruiter for short listing.
(4) In case the Recruiter has no procedure for Pre Interview Screening, the list of interested students shall automatically become the FIL.
(5) In case the Recruiter invites limited applications and sets no criterion for short listing, the standard criteria followed by RCC for short listing shall be followed.
7. Waitlisted Candidates -
(1) All Recruiters shall give a list of waitlisted candidates at two stages of the Recruitment Process to the RCC:
(a) Waitlisted Candidates for interviews: To facilitate interviews of those who are not in the Final Interview List (FIL) of the Applicants, to appear for the Final Interviews.
(b) Interviewed Applicants' Waitlist: To be provided by the Recruiter, containing candidates beyond the list of selected Applicants to whom Offers have been made for employment after the Final Interviews.
(2) The waitlist for interviews here means that if any Applicant who is selected in the FIL is not available for the interview then the Recruiter can interview the Applicant mentioned in the waitlist, if the Recruiter considers so appropriate.
(3) The Interviewed Applicants Waitlist refers to interviewed Applicants, to whom Offers for
employment have not been made by the Recruiter, but the Recruiter is willing to consider them if the Offer has been rejected by an Applicant in the Selected Candidates List and the recruiter is willing to consider those in the Interviewed Applicants Waitlist.
(4) All the waitlists are to be kept confidential and will be disclosed as per the instructions of the Recruiters.
8. Pre-Placement Offer ( PPO) -
(1) A PPO received by any of the Applicants through any previous internship with a registered Recruiter or any prospective Recruiter shall be deemed to be an Offer with respect to the final offer (read with clause 9 & 10). The Applicant, prior to registering with the Recruiter during the Recruitment Process, shall either accept or reject the PPO.
(2) Acceptance of the PPO shall conclude the Applicant's participation in the Recruitment
Process.
(3) Rejection of the PPO would debar the student from appearing for any Pre Interview Screening or Final Interview of the same Recruiter.
(4) Applicants are mandated to disclose to the RCC any PPO offered to them as and when such PPOs are offered to the Applicants.
(5) A list of PPOs offered shall be prepared by the CRA in consultation with the respective registered Recruiters.
(6) Non-disclosure of any PPO offered, by an applicant shall result in automatic debarring of the applicant from the recruitment process.
9. Final Interviews -
(1) An Applicant is allowed to appear for Final Interviews for which he/she has been short listed in accordance with clause 6.
(2) An Applicant who receives an offer shall not be eligible after his/her acceptance with regards the same to appear for an application process of another Recruiter through an Interview or otherwise, during the Recruitment Process.
(3) Acceptance or rejection of the first Offer itself shall conclude the participation of the Applicant in the Recruitment Process.
10. Individual Application –
(a) Any applicant registered with the RCC for recruitment process is not eligible to apply on his/her individual basis to any recruiter registered with the RCC.
(b) Any applicant who has acted in derogation of clause (a) of this provision shall be immediately debarred from the recruitment process.
(c) In the event of a registered applicant applying beforehand with any organisation which in due course is registered with the RCC after his/her application, shall be duty bound to intimate the RCC in due course.
11. Final Offer -
(1) All Recruiters will be required to disclose the results of their Final Interviews and any Offer made to Applicant(s) only through the RCC. The RCC will maintain the record of Offers accepted and rejected by the Applicant(s).
(2) All Recruiters need to declare the final selection results within the stipulated time as agreed upon by the Recruiter and the RCC, in accordance with the above rule. Recruiters will inform and provide the designated RCC member(s) with the Selected candidates List and the waitlist. This shall be later made public to the Applicants who had appeared for the Final Interviews or for the process as undertaken by that Recruiter.
11. Declaration of Results -
(1) All results are to be declared and made solely available through the RCC. There shall be no direct communication between the Recruiter and the Applicant in regard to Offers made or accepted respectively.
(2) Strict confidentiality is to be maintained in the declaration of results. The RCC is to declare a final list, in consonance with the one provided by the recruiter that will contain the offers made and finally accepted at the conclusion of the final interviews and any other processes undertaken by the concerned recruiters during that day.
12. Withdrawal -
A withdrawal by an Applicant after getting shortlisted at the first stage or any subsequent stage there to, shall conclude his/her participation in the Recruitment Process.
13. Amendment -
These Rules are subject to amendments, and can be amended only by the RCC as and when required, with 2/3rd members of core-committee of RCC.
